SUNY Ulster Coordinating National Child Passenger Technician Training October 2-5 and Free Car Seat Clinic October 5

October 1, 2019 – Kingston, NY – The SUNY Ulster Mid-Hudson Health and Safety Institute is coordinating a National Child Passenger Technician Training Course from October  2 - 5, 2019. Upon completion of the course, technicians will offer a free car seat clinic at Ulster Hose Fire Co., 830 Ulster Ave. in Kingston. The clinic will be held on Saturday, October 5, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Law Enforcement, Human Services, and other child safety advocates from New York State and around the region will be attending the training. The in-depth training course covers crash dynamics, vehicle and occupant safety, and child development geared toward injury prevention and transporting children safely. This training is part of a grant project at SUNY Ulster sponsored by the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

At the clinic, caregivers will be educated by the technicians on proper seat installation for their child. Unbeknownst to caregivers, most car seats are incorrectly installed which can result in injury or death in a crash. Correct installation of car seats is effective in reducing the risk to children. Caregivers may bring their current car seat and child for a complete car seat check.
