Students registered in an Advanced Manufacturing Registered Apprenticeship program may qualify for funding to take courses for free.

SUNY Ulster Offers Advanced Manufacturing Courses and Pre-Apprenticeship Program this Fall

September 3, 2019 – Stone Ridge, NY – The SUNY Ulster Office of Continuing and Professional Education is offering an array of Advanced Manufacturing courses along with a Pre-Apprenticeship program. No prior experience is necessary for taking these courses. Students registered in an Advanced Manufacturing Registered Apprenticeship program may qualify for funding to take courses for free.

Mathematics for Manufacturing

Strengthen mathematical skills needed for the set-up and operation of machine tools and computer numerical control (CNC) programming. Mathematical operations including fractions, exponents, basic algebra and trigonometry will be reviewed. 

Dates: 9/17/2019 – 11/7/2019

Days: Tuesday/Thursday

Time: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Fee: $450


Blueprint Reading for Manufacturing

This course is geared for machine operators, quality control inspectors, shop supervisors, metalworking manufacturing personnel, engineering managers, and other manufacturing persons interested in learning to read manufacturing prints or updating their knowledge in this area.

Dates: 11/12/2019 – 1/21/2020

Days: Tuesday/Thursday

Time: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Fee: $450


Intro to CNC Programming - Mill & Lathe

This hybrid course covers the fundamentals of machining metals advancing towards a three axis mill and lathe. Using CNC Programming and an online CNC Learning System, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of programming mills and lathes. Students have the choice of taking this course for credit or as a non-credit course. This course is online and self-paced with mandatory hands-on labs Monday evenings at Ulster BOCES in Port Ewen.

GD&T: Introduction to Blueprint Basics, Symbols, & Inspection Techniques

In this introductory course, use and interpretation of drawings, drawing features, first and third angle projections, concepts of using linear tolerancing vs. GD&T tolerance zones, and introduction to concepts of implied constraints will be discussed.

Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

GD&T: Feature Control Frame, True Position & Profile Concepts, & Inspection Techniques

This course will continue on where GD&T: Introduction to Blueprint Basics, Symbols, and Inspection Techniques leaves off. It will cover application and inspection techniques using control frames and true position.

Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Fee: $299


Pre-Apprenticeship Program

Pre-apprenticeship programs can play a valuable role in preparing qualified entry-level workers for Registered Apprenticeship careers while contributing to the development of a diverse and skilled workforce. Students completing this series of courses may qualify for credit towards an apprenticeship program. This 52-hour program prepares students for an apprenticeship position in one of the many local manufacturing companies in Ulster County. Courses in this series include Intro to Manufacturing, Intro to Mathematics for Manufacturing, Intro to Blueprint Reading, Hands-on Manufacturing Lab, and Workplace Success Skills.  Funding may be available for these courses.
