SUNY Ulster Welcomes Mary Stuart Masterson and Jeremy Davidson of Storyhorse Documentary Theater as Spring 2019 Artists-in-Residence

January 15, 2019– Stone Ridge, NY – Mary Stuart Masterson and Jeremy Davidson, nationally recognized writers, producers, and actors, have been named as the spring 2019 Larry Berk Artist-in-Residence at SUNY Ulster. The duo will showcase a Storyhorse Documentary Theater production, THE FACE OF IT - a set of three one-act plays about Hudson Valley identities on Saturday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Quimby Theater, Vanderlyn Hall. The snow date for the show is March 30 at 7:00 p.m.

THE FACE OF IT is comprised of three one-act plays about identity based on conversations with Hudson Valley residents. The play “In Her Shoes,” set in a Poughkeepsie nursing home, shows Ulster County BOCES principal Genna Suraci and her mother Lena stepping into a new stage of life together. In “The Weight,” a young woman from Ballston Lake faces an impossible choice that challenges her relationship with God. In “Among Us,” Hudson Valley Bigfoot Research Alliance founder Gayle Beatty and psychic medium Johnny Angel search for Sasquatch. The plays are written by Jeremy Davidson and directed by Mary Stuart Masterson, with sound design by Seth Chrisman and projection design by Rasean Davonte Johnson.

Jeremy Davidson and Mary Stuart Masterson, cofounders of Storyhorse (storyhorsetheater.org), will be visiting Theatre Arts classes throughout the semester to teach the format of Storyhorse Theater and guide students to present their own stories.

Jeremy Davidson is a writer, producer, and actor. His writing includes the documentary plays, “Good Dirt” (BAM, Fischer Center), “The Kept Private,” and “The Quiet Execution of Frank L. Teal.” He is the writer/director of the Holocaust film “Tickling Leo” (Jury Prize Best Film, Stonybrook Film Fest). His acting work includes the recent Netflix series “Seven Seconds,” “The Americans,” “Army Wives,” and “Pan Am.”

Mary Stuart Masterson has appeared in over 25 films, including “Fried Green Tomatoes” and “Benny & Joon,” as well as numerous plays and musicals, including “Nine” and “National Anthems.” She directed and produced the feature film “The Cake Eaters” and produced “Tickling Leo,” written and directed by her husband, Jeremy Davidson. She is also the founder of StockadeWorks, dedicated to fostering film and tech in the Hudson Valley.

The Larry Berk Artist-in-Residence Program is a unique program bringing an established regional artist to campus for an entire semester to present a series of events to the campus and community. SUNY Ulster has historically been a rich source of arts programming and the Artist-in- Residence Program is an opportunity to build upon our college relationship with the arts community in the Hudson Valley.
