Section II: Alcoholism and substance abuse counseling (150 hours) Includes the study of the theory and practice of both group and individual counseling. Through experiential learning and group activities, students will consider the cultural competence needed for culturally sensitive treatment. Students will reflect on the specific prevention and treatment needs of particular populations. Class participants will look at theories of human development and how they relate to substance abuse and be introduced to the practice of working with affected family members and significant others.
