Free Car Seat Clinic Offered in Saugerties on September 21

National Child Passenger Safety Week

September 9, 2019 – Stone Ridge, NY – SUNY Ulster, the Saugerties Police Department, and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department will sponsor a free car seat clinic in Saugerties in observance of National Child Passenger Safety Week. “Seat Check Saturday” will be held on September 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Lynch Fire House, 5 Theodore Place in Saugerties. Parents and caregivers may bring child seats to the clinic to be checked for safety recalls and safe installation.

Every year, thousands of children are injured or killed in car crashes. Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children 1 through 12 years old. Most children 8 to 12 years old seriously injured or killed in crashes were not wearing seat belts or were not wearing them correctly. These children are also more likely to get hurt in crashes when riding in the front seat. Many parents and caregivers assume they know how to choose and use the correct child restraints for their children, but three out of every four children are riding at an increased risk of injury because their car seats are not being used correctly.
