March 28, 2019 – Stone Ridge, NY – This spring, the SUNY Ulster Theatre Department presents performances of the classic children’s story “The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde, reimagined for the stage using devised movement and puppetry. The performance is directed by Theatre Program Coordinator Stephen Balantzian and created, built, and performed by SUNY Ulster students. Performances run from Thursday to Saturday, April 11 - 13, at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, April 14, at 2:00 p.m. All are performed in the SUNY Ulster Quimby Theater, Vanderlyn Hall.

Stephen Balantzian says, "It's been a fascinating journey with the cast creating puppets and developing the world of this story through theatre. Using a devised approach in the process, we've spent much of our rehearsal forming ideas and honing in on how best to present it. It's magical, a little dark, and truly a wonderful challenge for us all."

SUNY Ulster Theatre students present several full-scale theatrical productions during the year. Theatre productions at SUNY Ulster are open to all students, regardless of their programs of study. They also present original programs of Reader's Theater in December and May. In addition, both student and professional touring groups are invited to the campus.

The suggested donation is $10 at the door and free for SUNY Ulster students. No reservation is required. For more information about "The Selfish Giant,” call the Quimby Theatre at the SUNY Ulster box office at (845) 688-1959.
