SUNY Ulster Offers Variety of Summer Camps this July and August

May 25, 2018 - Stone Ridge, NY - SUNY Ulster’s Office of Continuing and Professional Education is offering a variety of summer camp classes for local youth this July and August.

Senators Baseball Camp

Ages 7-12: This camp is designed for the serious player as well as the beginner. Instruction concentrates on the basic fundamentals of baseball, including hitting, fielding, pitching, throwing, and base running. In addition, this athletic academy includes intense work on learning and improving skills, effective drills, and developing proper work habits. Athletes are placed into an appropriate group based on age and ability. The coach-to-athlete ratio is 1:12. Steven Morse, Head Baseball Coach, will lead the camp.

Robotics & Programming Camp

Ages 10-14: This camp offers a hands-on approach to learning robotics. Using SCRATCH, a popular program for creating interactive and animated projects, and CREATE Lab Visual Programmer, students use a storyboarding approach to program Finch robots to accomplish complex maneuvers. Instructor Dr. Cynthia Marcello is a professor of Computer Science and runs numerous game jam and hackathon events, interactive fiction competitions, computer science and robotics camps, and 4H STEM workshops.

Portfolio Development Camp

Ages 11-18: This boot camp will include foundation drawing and painting skills/techniques, working from direct observation of still life, castes and the landscape, exploration of a variety of drawing and painting media, and development of a portfolio of work highlighting the participant’s drawing and painting skills. This is ideal for the beginner and for those wanting to further develop and master their drawing and painting skills. All materials will be provided, and each student will receive an official SUNY Ulster fine art sketchbook. The educational leader for this camp is Christopher Seubert, SUNY Ulster Adjunct Art Faculty member and local artist, who will be assisted by a SUNY Ulster Fine Art student.

Figure Drawing Painting Camp

Ages 11-18: This boot camp will include foundation drawing and painting skills, lectures in introductory anatomy, drawing and painting techniques, color theory, working every day with the model, exploring a variety of drawing and painting media, and developing a portfolio of work highlighting skills. This is ideal for the beginner and for those wanting to develop and master their figure drawing and painting skills. All materials will be provided, and each student will receive an official SUNY Ulster fine art sketchbook. The educational leader for this camp is Christopher Seubert, SUNY Ulster Adjunct Art Faculty member and local artist, who will be assisted by a SUNY Ulster Fine Art student.

3D Printing Camp

Ages 11-18: Participants will learn the basics of 3D printing using the solid modeling software Inventor Professional 2018. They will experience 3D printing using Makerbot printers and learn some of the operation and maintenance of the Makerbot printers. The educational leader for this camp is Salvatore Ligotino, a SUNY Ulster Assistant Professor of the STEM department.

Revit Architecture Camp

Ages 13-18: Participants will learn the basics of producing 3D virtual buildings in this architectural based camp. The educational leader for this camp is Salvatore Ligotino, a SUNY Ulster Assistant Professor of the STEM department.
