2018 Own It! Entrepreneurial Women’s Conference at SUNY Ulster Announces
Diana Lovett, Founder of Cissé Cocoa Company & Social Entrepreneur as Keynote Speaker

Registration Opens for 4th Annual Conference Scheduled for May 31st

March 5, 2018 – Stone Ridge, NY – Own It! Entrepreneurial Women’s Conference at SUNY Ulster announces its keynote speaker for the May 31st, 2018 event as Diana Lovett, social entrepreneur and founder of Cissé Cocoa Company. The one-day conference runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the Stone Ridge campus of SUNY Ulster.

Conference participants will discover how Ms. Lovett combined her passion for social justice and her love of chocolate into Cissé Cocoa Company, a line of baking mixes, hot chocolates, and packaged brownies made from organic, fair trade beans farmed in the Dominican Republic.

Lovett’s compelling business story represents a wave of social entrepreneurship trending the marketplace. These entrepreneurs respond to societal problems by blending for-profit best business practices with social missions, resulting in businesses meant not only to succeed but to change the world for better, attracting long term funders and consumers who want to shop responsibly.

An unprecedented number of organizations like Lovett’s Cissé Cocoa Company are using entrepreneurship as a strategy to address social problems, joining a movement of businesses like Etsy, Ben & Jerry, and Patagonia, where the social and environmental values are built into their fabric.

Lovett notes, “For us, supporting fair trade is twofold: not only do the ingredients taste better, the funds end up directly in the hands of the communities and families that need them most.” At this year’s Own It! conference participants will learn how within a few years, Cissé Cocoa Company garnered national distribution while reinvesting in the communities where their ingredients were sourced.

Dr. Mindy Kole, Director of the Darlene L. Pfeiffer Center for Entrepreneurial Studies notes, “Everyone at SUNY Ulster is excited to welcome Diana Lovett, CEO of Cissé Cocoa, as our keynote speaker. She will share her story of how she founded Cissé, including how she sought input and advice from other successful entrepreneurs and built her advisor network to help ensure the success of her business. Her talk will not only be inspirational, but very practical and useful to all our conference attendees."
Lovett’s keynote supports the theme of this year’s conference, CUTTING EDGE STRATEGIES FOR CHANGING TIMES. The event’s two tracks serve both small business owners ready to grow their businesses, as well as start-up stage entrepreneurs.

Last year, over 125 women business owners attended Own It! with more expected this year. Those wanting to attend, can register at www.SUNYUlster.edu/ownit.

The fourth annual Own It! Entrepreneurial Women’s Conference is presented by the Darlene L. Pfeiffer Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at SUNY Ulster; the Ulster Community College Foundation, Inc., and the NYS Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Center.
