Water Treatment Operator Pre-certification Courses
Grades A, B, C & D
SUNY Ulster’s Department of Continuing & Professional Education will offer courses that are designed to satisfy training requirements under Part 5 of the NY Sanitary Code. Under this code, all NY State Grades A, B, C, and D Water Treatment Plant Operators are required to complete a training program as a prerequisite to becoming certified.
The NY State Department of Health has approved these courses and team of instructors. A water treatment plant operator works in water treatment plants. Water is pumped from wells, rivers, streams, and reservoirs to water treatment plants, where it is treated and distributed to customers. Water operators use testing equipment, take samples, and make adjustments to water treatment systems to make water safe for distribution and consumption. Median pay in 2016 was $45,760. (Entry level wages frequently are below the median.) Employment is projected to grow by 6% by year 2024.
The certification required depends on the size and type of plant the operator will be working in. SUNY Ulster provides the required pre-certification training, as well as contact hours for experienced operators.
