Own It! Entrepreneurial Women’s Conference

Expands Programming to Two Tracks: Starting Your Business & Growing Your Business

Now in its third year, OWN IT! Entrepreneurial Women’s Conference is expanding to two tracks for their June 1st conference. The 2017 theme, Ready, Start, Grow! includes programming for women who are starting a business as well as those who are ready to take their business to the next level.

This year’s keynote speaker, Lorine Pendleton, is an active angel investor who backs and advises women and minority-led companies. Named by Marie Claire magazine as one of the “50 Most Connected Women in America,” Ms. Pendleton will tell her story as an angel investor and speak about how women can differentiate their businesses through technology and other advances to be best positioned to obtain financing for their business. Pendleton, in a 2015 Forbes article on how boosting female entrepreneurship fuels economic growth said, “My whole focus is on leveling the playing field for entrepreneurs, whether they are women or people of color.”

The day-long conference features workshops, panels, and networking time designed to provide actionable advice, information and ideas that can be implemented immediately to start, advance and grow your business. Workshop presenters and panelists come from Ulster, Orange, Dutchess, and Albany Counties, with one presenter from Oneida County, N.Y. Topics covered include financing, leadership, branding, marketing, sales, budgeting, hiring and more.

According to the 2016 Kauffman Index of Startup Activity, women now comprise 40% of new entrepreneurs in the U.S. In New York State, the Small Business Development Center of New York shows there were 709,021 minority-owned businesses and 725,709 women-owned businesses as of 2012. Own It! recognizes that the time is right for women starting and growing businesses - including the rise of venture-backed funds led by women, as Lorine Pendleton will discuss, as well as greater access to mentors and role models, as demonstrated by this women-led conference.

Sponsored by the Ulster Community College Foundation, Inc. Darlene L. Pfeiffer Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and the Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Corporation , this conference for women entrepreneurs and ‘dream-to-be entrepreneurs’ has had over 100 small business owners and entrepreneur’s attended each of the past two conferences, which has received multiple accolades for its programming and networking opportunities.

Registration is ongoing. Advanced registration is $48. $65 if paying at the door. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come basis. The day includes the keynote address, all workshops and panels, breakfast, lunch, and networking.
