SUNY Ulster Offers Driving Courses

Open to the Public

SUNY Ulster’s Continuing and Professional Education Department will offer several driving courses that are open to the public and require pre-registration. Course offerings include: Driver Education, the 5-Hour Pre-licensing Class, and the Defensive Driving Class.

The Driver Education class will be held at the Kingston Center of SUNY Ulster, 94 Marys Avenue in Kingston. Class orientation takes place on Friday, June 16 at 3 pm. Class meets Monday through Friday, June 26 to August 15, from 8:30 to 10 am. In addition to the classroom, the students are assigned a drive time which is determined at the orientation.

5-Hour Pre-licensing Class covers the effects of alcohol and drugs on driving perception and defensive driving techniques. Upon completion, students will be issued a certificate, which is required to take the road test. The class meets the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles classroom requirement in driver safety education. The course will be offered at the Kingston Center (KSU) on Saturday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 pm. The course fee is $45.

The Defensive Driving Class is designed to help prevent and avoid accidents through techniques developed by the National Safety Council and approved by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Participants in the 6-hour class can save 10 percent on their auto liability, no-fault and collision insurance premiums for three years. Class is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kingston Center, 94 Mary’s Avenue. The course fee is $45.
