Education Takes Flight When You Register for Drone Courses

Registration is Now Open for Two Specialized Courses

Registration is now open for two specialized courses at SUNY Ulster, in the growing field of drone operation. The continuing education classes teach skills and knowledge required to pilot drones (small unmanned aircraft) and to access countless emerging job opportunities.

Attend a free information session at the Kingston Center for SUNY Ulster on May 18, from 7 to 8:00 p.m., to learn about the exciting new technology now available for commercial Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Remote Pilot Certification. Learn how drone use is changing the economy and creating new jobs. There will also be an indoor flight demonstration, slideshow, and Q&A session. Registration is required.

The first course offering is 12-hour hands-on Intro to sUAS/Learn to Fly. The class runs on Saturday, June 3 and June 10 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., on the Stone Ridge Campus. The class teaches business and hobby pilots to fly safely and legally, understand new jobs and business models, and get the most out of their drones. The course fee includes a small training quadcopter with a camera, a computer flight simulator, and a workbook. The cost for the course is $995.

To legally operate a drone for any business purpose, FAA regulations now require remote pilot certification. The 6-hour Remote Pilot Knowledge Test Prep course prepares pilots interested in pursuing those commercial opportunities to successfully pass the comprehensive knowledge test required for FAA certification. The class is Saturday, June 17, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., on the Stone Ridge Campus. The cost for that class is $495.

These courses can be taken sequentially or individually, depending on each student’s ability level and employment goals. Hands-on Knowledge-to-Action curriculum, tested and vetted by the State University of New York, gives advanced insight into the business and employment opportunities created by drones.
