Education Takes Flight When You Register for New Drone Courses

First class begins Saturday, March 25

Registration is now open for two new specialized courses at SUNY Ulster, in the growing field of drone operation. The continuing education classes teach skills and knowledge required to pilot drones and small unmanned aircraft, and to access countless emerging job opportunities.

The first course offering is 12-hour hands-on Intro to sUAS/Learn to Fly. The class runs on Saturday, March 25th and on Saturday, April 1st from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., on the Stone Ridge Campus. The class teaches business and hobby pilots to fly safely and legally, understand new jobs and business models, and get the most out of their drones. The course fee includes a quadcopter with a camera, a computer flight simulator, and a workbook. The cost for the course is $995.

To legally operate a drone for any business purpose, FAA regulations now require remote pilot certification. The 6-hour Remote Pilot Knowledge Test Prep course prepares pilots interested in pursuing those commercial opportunities to successfully pass the comprehensive knowledge test required for FAA certification. The class is Saturday, April 8th, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., on the Stone Ridge Campus. The cost for that class is $495.

These courses can be taken sequentially or individually, depending on each student’s ability level and employment goals. Hands-on Knowledge-to-Action curriculum, tested and vetted by the State University of New York, gives advanced insight into the business and employment opportunities created by drones.

The Instructor is Roger Uvyn from SkyOp, a technology transfer company creating training experiences preparing the American workforce for new jobs and business models created by emerging technologies.
