In Kingston for Those Seeking Medical Careers

SUNY Ulster is offering the following short-term training programs at their Kingston Center during the spring semester. These programs prepare students for employment in a variety of in-demand careers within the medical field.


Pharmacy Technician Certification

This certification course provides the basic practical skills and knowledge required for a career in a hospital, home healthcare, mail order and retail pharmacy environments. The course prepares students for the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination. Prerequisite: high school diploma. Class meets on Tuesdays, February 21 through May 23, from 6:30–9 pm at the Kingston Center. Course fee is $539.


Patient Care Technician

Patient Care Technicians work in hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, long term care facilities, physician offices and assisted living facilities. These professionals must possess the technical skills necessary to service complex patient care issues including: rehabilitation services, diagnostic tests, basic bedside care, the collection of laboratory specimens, phlebotomy and EKG’s. This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) - Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT); Certified Nurse Technician (CNT); and/or Certified Patient Care Associate (CPCA) national certification exams. Class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, March 6 through June 7 from 6–9:30pm. In addition the class meets on Saturdays, April 1 and 22, May 6 and 20, and June 3 from 9 am-4 pm. All classes meet at the Kingston Center. Course fee is $1,899.


EKG Technician Certification Preparation

This course covers the role of the technician, patient privacy, medical terminology, the cardiovascular and respiratory system, and the function of electrocardiography. Prerequisite: high school diploma. Class meets Tuesdays March 7 through May 23 from 6 – 9 pm. Course fee is $459. The exam date is Tuesday, May 30, from 6–8 pm and the exam fee is $85. This class meets at Health Alliance Educational Building, 394 Hasbrouck Avenue, Kingston.


Phlebotomy Technician

This is a 90-hour Phlebotomy Technician Program to prepare professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. This class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 7 through May 23, from 6–9:30 pm at the Kingston Center. Course fee is $1799 and includes a textbook. In addition, class meets on Saturdays: March 25, April 15, and May 6 from 9 am-3 pm.
