Students will have the opportunity to work with a professional actress as part of a Musical Theater Workshop with Dierdre Friel, who has appeared on Broadway and the HBO Series’ The Sopranos.

Open to high school and college students, the workshop will take place on September 15, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m., in Quimby Theater. Attendees should prepare a musical theater song and monologue of their choice.

Friel has been conducting, arranging, and writing music for groups throughout the tri-state area for more than 15 years and has worked with Rutgers Theater Conservatory, the Center for Creative Alternatives and Disney Theatrical. She has directed and musically directed a multitude of shows, including several world-premiere productions. Friel has appeared on HBO’s The Sopranos; My Father’s Will; Pretty Bird; Sister Act: the Musical; and Doubt.

She has worked with many prestigious theaters, including Manhattan Theater Club, Second Stage Company and Papermill Playhouse. In 2004, she was nominated by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets for Outstanding Female Debut for her one-woman show. She studied and performed at Shakespeare’s Globe Theater in London and graduated from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts with her B.F.A. in Acting.
